Matt. 7:22-23. "Many will say to Me on that day, `Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' 23. "And then I will declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.'
Lord
kurios - was a common Jewish name used in substitution for Yahweh or Jehovah because His name was thought too holy to be uttered. To say Lord, Lord would show intense devotion without violating the 3rd Commandment. Jesus has no problem seeing through this faked devotion and it is as Hendriksen says, “In their case life and lip had not been in harmony.”
Many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord,” on that day,” is Jesus giving us a clear view of what will happen in the future. That day refers to the day of final judgment, or what is known as the great day of the Lord. We look to some Old Testament scripture to gain some insight on what Jesus is saying to these false professors of His name.
Is. 2:17.
And the pride of man will be humbled,
And the loftiness of men will be abased,
And the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.
Zeph. 1:
15. A day of wrath is that day,
A day of trouble and distress,
A day of destruction and desolation,
A day of darkness and gloom,
A day of clouds and thick darkness,
16. A day of trumpet and battle cry,
Against the fortified cities
And the high corner towers.
17. And I will bring distress on men,
So that they will walk like the blind,
Because they have sinned against the Lord;
And their blood will be poured out like dust,
And their flesh like dung.
18. Neither their silver nor their gold
Will be able to deliver them
On the day of the Lord's wrath;
And all the earth will be devoured
In the fire of His jealousy,
For He will make a complete end,
Indeed a terrifying one,
Of all the inhabitants of the earth.
Zech. 14:6. And it will come about in that day that there will be no light; the luminaries will dwindle.

Mal. 3:17. "And they will be Mine," says the Lord of hosts, "on the day that I prepare My own possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him."

That day will entail two kind of people; those who entered by the narrow gate and those who entered by the broad gate, as these sham professors. Those who walked the narrow path will receive his rewards based on his mortal fruit described in 2Cor. 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. Those whom address Jesus as “Lord, Lord,” have a very different fate which will truly be a surprise to them as described in the Great White Throne judgment spelled out in Rev. 20:15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
